Name : Mathilda Sykes - Mattie
Age : 15
Gender : Female
Type : Human
Elective(s) : Introduction to Magic, Introduction to Melee Combat -- French
Etnicity : Mixed - 1/2 Caucasion, 1/2 Black
Description : Average height, fairly average build for her age, and average enough looks, not gorgeous but not unattractive by any means. She's got a sort of innocence about her features now, caught somewhere between a child's cuteness and a teenager's budding attractiveness. Her skin is a nice mix of her parents' skintones, a rich hazel cream, her hair is ebony black but soft and straight, her eyes are gray-blue. Mattie wears typical fashion for a teen her age, though leaning more toward capris and jeans than skirts to keep up with her somewhat active lifestyle.
Personality : Extremely nice, chipper, happy-go-lucky and adventurous. While not the most popular girl in school, Mattie is perhaps the most well-liked. It's very hard not to like her, she just seems to befriend everybody; popular kids and unpopular kids alike.
History :
Mattie's life was fairly average before 'the incident.' In fact average was a good word to describe her, from her looks to her somewhat cookie-cutter existance. Her parents Roger and Naomi Sykes are middle-class, her older brother Malcolm is a pain, and Mattie herself was a good kid doing fairly well in school.
And then, on the way home from school one afternoon after getting off the bus, Mattie came face to face with something that was definitely not average. A tiny little man no bigger than her index finger, with buzzing insect-like wings and a wild plume of pastel-pink hair. With a mailman's satchel over his bare shoulder.
The poor little bug-man was more shocked and frightened than she was by the encounter, and ended up loosing half the contents of his bag in his flustered haste to get away. Mattie, after she got over her shock, carefully gathered up all of the miniscule letters and took them home with her. The next morning she went back to the spot, hoping she'd see the bug-man again.
She didn't see him at first, but she did see the Lord of the Rings-looking elf with bright orange-yellow hair crossing the street. And the dragon that flew overhead. It took half the day for the bug-mailman to return, and in that time Mattie saw more fantastical creatures than she even knew existed in myth. The mailman--a pixie he had eventually explained--took back his dropped letters, thanked her somewhat nervously, and then informed Mattie that she would be getting a visit from a woman named Briarthorn very soon. In order to take her somewhere to teach her more about this wonderful world she'd stumbled into.
Mattie can't hardly wait. All her life she's been drifting through the monotony. She's ready and willing for whatever adventure comes her way next.
Powers : None at this time (other than irrepressible cheeriness)
